Melis Ragusin

“I was born in 1979 in Izmir, Turkey, graduated from Saint Joseph High School, and earned a BA in International Relations and Economics from Towson University. My artistic journey began in 2021 when my children’s talent for painting inspired me to immerse myself in art through online workshops, evolving into an abstract mixed-media artist.

As a mixed-media and new-media artist, I explore human emotions, thoughts, and the essence of life. My work communicates a message yet invites personal interpretation, fostering a boundless dialogue free from rules. Inspiration strikes in the everyday details—textures, fleeting emotions, or small nuances—guiding my creative process. I layer diverse materials like broken glass, chipboard, coffee beans, and epoxy resin to craft multidimensional, tactile compositions, each element adding depth and symbolism.

I also embrace the digital realm, merging tangible art with virtual experiences. Working with AI and digital manipulation, I push traditional boundaries, opening doors to unexpected creative possibilities. I’m expanding into immersive digital experiences, such as backdrop motion art for music festivals, inviting viewers into layered, immersive worlds. Constantly evolving, I blend the old with the new, the physical with the digital, pursuing the infinite potential of artistic expression.”

There’s something profoundly liberating about not being confined to traditional materials or methods. It’s about breaking rules, challenging norms, and embracing the joy of experimentation.
